Summary of Jackals and Arabs

Jackals and Arabs is a short story by Franz Kafka written in 1919. Kafka writes about a European man journeying with Arabs. During the night he is visited by a group of Jackals who tell him that they have been waiting for him for generations, and that he must save the jackals from the uncleanliness of the Arabs. The jackals finally present the man a pair of rusty sewing scissors with which they ask he slit the throats of all the Arabs. Meanwhile, the Arabs wake up and with his whip scares the jackals. The Arabs then dump a camel carcass to which the Jackals cannot resist the urge to divulge.
